Contact UsWhat are pediatric eye exams?
Eye issues aren't age-specific; 25% of kids face ocular challenges. At Advanced Vision & Achievement Center, Dr. Neha Amin LaCorte and Dr. Mary Hardy offer tailored pediatric eye examinations. It's recommended for children to have their first eye assessment by six months and another before starting school. From birth, a child's eyes undergo significant transformations. Since they're still developing, even slight issues can pose future risks and potentially affect learning. Prompt action is vital to tackle childhood eye concerns. What Can I Expect During My Child's Eye Exam?
Pediatric eye exams closely resemble standard ones, focusing on eye structure evaluation and clarity checks. Just as in a conventional test, we'll examine your child's eyes and eyelids, test various muscle actions, and assess eye alignment, among other things. These straightforward checks allow our experts to identify prevalent issues, such as lazy eye, congenital glaucoma, or infections. Depending on the results, we'll deliberate on potential treatments or plan the next regular checkup.

Dr. Hardy and her team are amazing! I appreciate AVAC for being open to scheduling 3 appts back to back for me and my kids. I also thought it was going to take a while to get through the exam and finding the right glasses for all of us but they were so efficient and quick on the process, we were done within an hour! This included having a new patient and making sure everyones needs were met! 10/10 would recommend to everyone!
Great staff, they take their time and discuss everything and Dr. Hardy is amazing.
I am so grateful for Dr. Amin! I have had concerns about my vision for years and she is the first doctor that took my concerns seriously and gave me actual answers and a path forward. Highly recommend!
I've been coming here for a few years now for my annual eye exams! The doctor's are always very nice as well as the staff! There's lots of parking here and a nice waiting room. This time I saw Dr. Leach. He was great and recommended some supplements to help with my vision! I didn't have time during this appointment to look at frames, but they do have a nice selection. In the past I have purchased glasses from here, and it has always been a seamless experience. Definitely recommend this place for all of your ophthalmology needs!

Pediatric Eye Exams FAQs
How often should a child have a pediatric eye exam?
We recommend that children have a comprehensive pediatric eye exam every year, beginning at age 5. With the increased demand children have now placed on their vision from school work and screen time, changes in vision can occur that negatively affect your child's school success and overall development.
What are the signs my child has a vision problem?
The most common symptoms of a vision problem in children include:
- Squinting
- Getting too close, or holding an object too close
- Covering one eye
- Frequently rubbing the eyes
- Head tilting
- Eye pain
- Headaches
- Difficulties concentrating
How are pediatric eye exams different from adult eye exams?
While pediatric eye exams include similar tests to adult exams, they are tailored to be child-friendly. This means the tests are often modified to be more engaging for children, and the optometrists use specialized equipment and techniques suitable for young patients to accurately assess their vision and eye health.
